Approximately twice a month, we schedule time for an NBBS designed program called PLS (Personal Life Skills). This course is designed by NBBS but incorporates some of the curriculum of the national curriculum of Citizenship..

As a school concerned with “Whole Child Education”, NBBS has developed a Personal Life Skills – Character Education Program for grades 1- 6. PLS includes our “poster series” found in every classroom. This theme-based series is implemented school-wide, starting near the beginning of the school year and runs for 6 weeks.

Week 1: Respect

Week 2: Responsibility

Week 3: Caring

Week 4: Fairness

Week 5: Trustworthiness

Week 6: Citizenship

After the initial six weeks, phase 2 is a more detailed program designed to deal with age-appropriate topics and issues for all grades. Topics may be school-wide, with each grade teacher discussing and working with the topic specific to the age/grade they teach. These topics could be about friendship or bullying, for example. Topics are also, at times, focused on soft-skills, such as cooperation, collaboration or communication. As well, topics may be divided, with older classes discuss and working with topics, such as: Health and Fitness (match with P.E. Curriculum or science), social media or internet use, for example.

Like all areas of a child’s education, we view these topics as a collaboration between home and school. This program serves as a great opportunity for parents to also discuss these topics with their children!
