NBBS Health, Safety and Environmental Care

Overview
Foremost is the health and safety of our students. Since its inception, NBBS has had serious health and safety protocols in place.
NBBS has a staggered time system that includes drop-off, play time, lunch time, and after school pick-up system. This system not only reduces congestion, but gives age-appropriate groupings for play and lunch time.
The NBBS front gate is locked unless staff supervision is in place. Guests, visitors and parents are given an appropriately labelled tag when entering school grounds. At the end of the school day, each student is passed “hand-to-hand” to waiting parents or guardians. Each student has a pick-up card which must be produced and shown by anyone unknown to staff, who wishes to pick up a student.
Students in NBBS are 100% supervised by staff during lunch, play time, and when on the playground. In the case of absent teachers, non-assigned teachers serve as substitute teachers.
NBBS has always been a “hand-washing” school. Students and staff wash hands multiple times per day, including before and after snack or lunch time, and after any outside sport or play time. NBBS has 30 toilets and and 50 hand washing taps designated in the school.
All NBBS students are required to carry tissue and a handkerchief for clean-up and hand washing. Students all bring large-sized water bottles to access clean drinking water from our water stations, located on every floor of our buildings. Students are encouraged to keep well hydrated throughout the day.
NBBS has a strict recycling program consisting of separating paper, plastic and food waste for every class in the school. This is a student-centered program, with students taking responsibility for all elements of the program. NBBS also has a student-lead composting system, which is used for NBBS gardens and programs.
NBBS has evacuation protocols in place and regularly has evacuation drills to ensure all students and staff understand the safest and quickest way to evacuate in the case of an emergency. In the case of an emergency, protocols are also in place to inform and contact all parents.
